House Extension FAQ’s

A house extension is a great way to add more space to your home, without having to move. Whether it’s a single storey extension, to create more family/entertaining space, or a double storey extension for additional bedrooms, a house extension is the perfect way to upgrade your home.

Do I need planning permission?
It depends on the size of your extension. The permitted development rules have recently been relaxed, allowing you to build an extension without planning permission of up to six metres (or eight metres if your house is detached). Anything above this will require planning permission.

Where do I start with a house extension?

  1. List all your requirements for your extension ie. Additional bedroom, en suite, new kitchen, bigger bathroom, more storage space.
  2. Obtain architectural drawings of the extension which meet all your requirements.
  3. Apply for planning permission (if needed).
  4. Obtain a quote.
  5. Agree a start date.

Will a house extension add value to my home?
Yes, adding additional rooms or making your house bigger, will add value to your home.

How long will an extension take?
A single storey extension will take 3-4 months to complete.
A double storey extension will take 5-6 months to complete.
